Sen. Rick Scott: Hong Kong Decision to Ban Face Masks is Shameful, Just the Beginning

October 4, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam invoked emergency powers to ban face masks at protests.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Chief Executive Carried Lam has made it clear that she is nothing more than a pawn for President Xi. Protestors in Hong Kong wear face masks to protect themselves from tear gas, and their families from threats and intimidation. Now, Chief Executive Lam is stripping another right from the people of Hong Kong – who are fighting every day for their freedom. This is shameful, and just the beginning. This is a precursor to further limits on the rights of the people of Hong Kong to peacefully assemble. We cannot let Communist China and President Xi continue to silence the people of Hong Kong. We have to stand up against injustice and fight for freedom.”
