Sen. Rick Scott Announces Additions to Washington Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott announced additions to staff for his Senate office. Senator Scott previously announced a series of senior staff hires.

Jon Foltz will serve as Legislative Director. Jack Heekin will serve as General Counsel. Katie Weissert will serve as Senior Policy Advisor. Priscilla Ivasco will serve as Deputy Communications Director. Sarah Schwirian will serve as Press Secretary. Alexandra Ojeda will serve as Hispanic Press Secretary. Megan Bailey will serve as Director of Scheduling.

  • Jon Foltz will serve as Legislative Director. He most recently served as a Senior Legislative Advisor in the Trump Administration at the Department of Homeland Security. Previously, Jon worked in senior legislative positions for Alabama Senator Luther Strange and Indiana Senator Dan Coats. Jon received his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, and Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife.

  • John P. “Jack” Heekin will serve as General Counsel.  Most recently, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Scott, where his responsibilities included acting as a liaison with federal agencies and the White House. Prior to that, he served as the Governor’s Chief Deputy General Counsel, where he oversaw criminal justice and clemency issues, and assisted with the selection and appointment of judges. He began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Palm Beach State Attorney’s Office.  Heekin received his Bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University, and Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law. 

  • Katie Weissert will serve as a Senior Policy Advisor focused on budget and appropriations.  She most recently served as Policy Director on Rick Scott’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to that, she worked at a global management consulting firm and previously served as Director of Strategic Planning for a state agency and as an economist for a think tank focused on tax and spending issues. Katie is a native Floridian and graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degree in Economics. 

  • Priscilla Ivasco will serve as Deputy Communications Director. She served as Director of Operations and Scheduling for Rick Scott’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Director of External Affairs in the Executive Office of the Governor. Priscilla was born in São Paulo, Brazil and eventually moved to Florida. She is a graduate of Florida State University.

  • Sarah Schwirian will serve as Press Secretary. She served as Deputy Communications Director on Rick Scott’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to the campaign, Sarah worked in the Florida State Senate handling policy and communications efforts. Sarah was born and raised in Palm Harbor, Florida and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Political Science from The Florida State University.

  • Alexandra Ojeda will serve as Hispanic Press Secretary after serving on Rick Scott’s successful U.S. Senate campaign as Hispanic Outreach Director. Previously, Alexandra worked as public policy manager for a Tampa advocacy group, and served as Federal Relations manager for a Washington, D.C. non-profit. Alexandra was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is a licensed attorney in the State of Florida.

  • Megan Bailey will serve as Director of Scheduling. She previously served as the Director of Operations for First Lady Ann Scott on Rick Scott’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to that, she held positions in Communications at Enterprise Florida and Legislative Affairs in the Governor’s Office. Megan graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History and a Masters in Applied American Politics and Public Policy.
