WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following a meeting at MacDill Air Force Base last week, Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Florida Base Commanders outlining his commitment to supporting Florida’s service members. Senator Scott regularly met with base commanders throughout his eight years as Governor, and worked every day to make Florida the most military and veteran friendly state in the nation.

As a Senator and member of the Armed Services committee, Senator Scott will continue that mission. Senator Scott plans to hold regular meetings with leaders from all 20 Florida military bases.

Dear Base Commander:

Thank you for your service and dedication to our country and for everything you do to provide for the needs of our military families living on your installation.

As a Navy veteran myself, I know firsthand the sacrifices our military members, veterans and their families make to keep our country safe. As Governor, I made it my mission to turn Florida into the most military and veteran-friendly state in the nation, and we’ve had great success. Now, as U.S. Senator and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, fighting for our heroes and their families continues to be my top priority. I am honored to partner with you as we work to improve the lives of our service members and I encourage you to keep me informed of any needs you and your base have that I can address in Washington.

When I served as Governor, I made sure Florida supported Base Commanders, military operations and military families in our state. As Senator, I am honored to continue my tradition of meeting with Florida’s Base Commanders on a regular basis so that I can learn firsthand how we can better support your service members and their families.

Thank you for joining me last week at MacDill Air Force Base for our inaugural Base Commanders meeting. I appreciate you taking the time to provide updates on how you are supporting the brave men and women who serve, and how Washington can be a better partner.

I was glad to discuss the needs of your base as we get ready for the National Defense Authorization Act, especially as it relates to improving schools and educational opportunities for military members and their families.

We spent time talking about base housing conditions, and while you did not express concerns or additional needs you have from the federal government, I look forward to working with you to ensure our military families have the highest quality living conditions possible.

I also ask that you please post and distribute the attachment to this letter so that families on your base will know how to contact my Senate representative in your region should they require my office’s assistance. I always am here to help in any way that I can.
