Sen. Rick Scott Statement on HHS Rule Requiring TV Ads to Include Drug Prices

May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced a final rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that will require direct-to-consumer television advertisements for prescription pharmaceuticals covered by Medicare or Medicaid to include the list price of the drug.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I applaud the Administration’s decision to require the inclusion of drug prices in TV ads. Transparency in healthcare costs is key to giving patients flexibility and control over their healthcare decisions. American consumers should always come first, which is why I’ve introduced bills to protect them from hospital price gouging and to force drug companies to stop charging Americans more than they charge in Canada and Europe.”
