Sen. Rick Scott: Sen. Schumer Puts Politics Over National Security

June 25, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after Senator Schumer and Senate Democrats announced their plan to stall the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) due to the democrat Presidential debates this week.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Senator Schumer cares more about the democrat presidential debates than getting the disaster relief funding Tyndall Air Force Base needs to recover after Hurricane Michael. He said there is ‘no rush’ to fund defense spending, even as bad actors like Iran and China threaten our national security. He also thinks stage time for the dozens of democrats running for president to promote their socialist ideas to grow government and bankrupt this country is more important than providing a pay raise for our military members. This is why people hate Washington.”

“Senator Schumer’s plan to hold up the NDAA for political reasons is a new low – but just another example of the Democrats’ refusal to do anything to help the American people.”

The fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes Senator Scott’s amendment to cut off funds to the Maduro regime, provides $1.4 billion to rebuild Tyndall Air Force Base, and includes $750 billion in defense spending and a 3.1% pay raise for military members – components of Senator Scott’s Fighting for Florida budget agenda.
