Sen. Rick Scott Applauds EU for Stepping Up in Fight for Freedom for Venezuela
July 16, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after the European Union announced its plan to sanction Venezuelan security forces involved in human rights violations.
Senator Rick Scott wrote, “I called on the EU to join the United States and do more to help the Venezuelan people, and I applaud them for stepping up to answer that call. With the EU as a partner in this fight, we have a real shot at getting Maduro to step aside. But we can’t stop here. The United States and freedom-loving nations around the world need to do everything in our power to isolate Maduro in Venezuela and cut off the supply of money from Cuba to Caracas. Every free nation must join us now to fight for freedom and demand Maduro leave power.”
On July 5th, Senator Scott spoke at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe to urge the European Union and all member nations to do more to support the fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela. And just last week, Senator Scott wrote an Op-Ed for Fox News saying that “Europe needs to stand for freedom in Venezuela.”
