Sen. Rick Scott to Floridians: Get Prepared NOW for Potential Impacts of Hurricane Isaias
August 1, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement urging Floridians to stay alert and get prepared as Florida braces for the potential impacts of Hurricane Isaias this weekend.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Every Floridian needs to be careful and take this storm seriously. Even if Hurricane Isaias stays off our coast, we should still expect potential impacts like deadly storm surge, rip tides and rip currents. Although preparing for a storm might look a little different amid the coronavirus, we cannot let our guards down. Get prepared now. Make sure you have 7 days of food and water, medication and emergency supplies, as well as anything you need to stay safe from the coronavirus, like masks and cleaning supplies. We cannot underestimate this storm and its potential impacts on our state. Every family needs to be prepared, stay vigilant and listen to the directions of local officials as the storm approaches.
“I’m receiving regular briefings from Ken Graham, the Director of the National Hurricane Center, and remain in constant contact with local and state officials to make sure Florida is ready. I’m working with Senator Rubio to support the state’s request for a disaster declaration to free up any resources needed to keep Floridians safe, and I look forward to the President granting that request.”
