Biden Should Turn to the Florida Playbook

There’s a popular saying that’s especially true in Washington: garbage in, garbage out. It’s a perfect fit for President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” package. Only in Washington can a massive expansion of government through unprecedented deficit spending be seen as a victory for the American people.
I’ve made no secret of my strong opposition to the president’s reckless tax-and-spend plan (FT View, October 15). While every president has the right to push their own agenda, Biden has shown that to fulfil his liberal wishlist, he is willing to bury our nation in a debt so massive that we will never be able to pay it off. This is bad because we are seeing the consequences right now with rampant inflation and supply chain issues.
I disagree with the conclusion reached by the editorial board. A lighter bill is not better than nothing at all. Too many American families, especially poor families like mine growing up, are suffering from rising costs due to inflation. We don’t need a lighter bill. We need a hard reset.
Biden and his Democrat pals in Congress should take the proven playbook we used in Florida when I was governor. Cut taxes, get Americans back to work, stop with the insane mandates on families and businesses and boost the economy so we can pay down the debt and fund our priorities without increasing deficits.
