Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act
December 16, 2021
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement regarding the passage of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Senator Rick Scott co-sponsored the original bipartisan legislation led by Senator Marco Rubio, which will ensure that goods made with Uyghur forced labor in the Xinjiang region do not enter the United States’ supply chain.
Senator Rick Scott said, “This week we sent a loud message to General Secretary Xi: the United States will not tolerate Communist China's horrific human rights abuses and genocide of Uyghurs. The United States has a duty to take a stand against these atrocities through prevention and punishment, and every American company should be taking every possible step to ensure their products and supply chains are free from slave labor. That’s why it’s shameful big corporations, like Apple and Nike, and members of the Biden administration, like John Kerry, secretly lobbied against the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. I am proud to have fought for this good bill, and I appreciate my colleagues for standing against this abuse. I encourage every American to signal their opposition to this genocide, stop buying products made in Communist China and support companies that stand up for human rights.”
