Senator Rick Scott said, “The U.S. has made it clear – we will not sit idly by while Communist China oppresses the people of Hong Kong. America is a beacon of freedom and democracy, and we will always stand against communist tyrants, like General Secretary Xi, who try and deny civil liberties to free people. In 2019, I went to Hong Kong to meet with the leaders who have spent years fighting for freedom and democracy, and have been proud to be their voice in the U.S. Senate. Last week’s by the Hong Kong government to sentence pro-democracy leaders like Jimmy Lai and Martin Lee is completely unwarranted, and is nothing but an effort by the Chinese Communist Party to silence those who believe in liberty.
