Sen. Rick Scott: Don’t Delay Ukraine Aid, Pass Separately From Omnibus

March 1, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement urging the Senate to immediately begin consideration of an aid package to support Ukraine as it fights against Russia’s unlawful and unjustified invasion. Senator Scott is calling for a Ukraine assistance package to be considered and immediately passed, separate of the potential Omnibus funding bill that is still being drafted in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Vladimir Putin’s unjustifiable and unlawful invasion of Ukraine has violated the sovereignty of a free country and American partner. Russia’s blatant act of war demands a strong and immediate response in the form of aid for Ukraine from the United States. Unfortunately, many in Washington do not share my urgency. Right now, leaders in the Senate and House are planning to tuck the aid package for Ukraine into the massive Omnibus spending bill that Congress will likely begin considering next week. That’s not good enough. While some may find it convenient to just stitch these issues together, doing so needlessly delays delivery of critical aid and military resources to the people of Ukraine as they fight for the survival of their democracy. America must always unapologetically stand in support of the world's democracies and against the threats posed by our enemies. I urge my colleagues to join me in demanding immediate action to help Ukraine.”
