Sen. Rick Scott on CPI Inflation Report: Families Cannot Afford Joe Biden's Failed Presidency

March 10, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement highlighting the need to implement substantive fiscal reforms to end the ongoing inflation crisis fueled by the Biden administration’s tax-and-spend agenda. February’s CPI data shows that there has been a significant increase in inflation every month of Biden’s presidency. Year over year consumer prices increased 7.9% in February — another four-decade record high.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Joe Biden’s been in office a little over a year and has failed at practically every aspect of his job. The border is broken. Our national security is at risk. Gas prices are the highest they have ever been and prices on everything from food to cars are skyrocketing to generational highs. What's Biden and the Democrats' answer? A $1.5 TRILLION spending bill that doesn't balance the budget, doesn't reduce the debt, hasn't been scored by the Congressional Budget Office and we have NO IDEA what impact it will have on inflation. Reckless government spending causes inflation, and America’s hardest working and poorest families, like mine growing up, cannot afford nearly three more years of radical policy and harmful ignorance from this president. Americans deserve better.”

According to today’s CPI release, price increases over the year include:

  • Used cars: +41.2%
  • Gasoline: +38.0%
  • Electricity: +9.0%
  • Food: +7.9%
  • Rent: +4.7%

Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation. Click HERE for a comprehensive list of his statements and actions on this urgent issue.
