Sens. Rick Scott and Ron Johnson Following Call with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy: Here’s What the U.S. Should be Doing to Support Ukraine

March 5, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senators Rick Scott and Ron Johnson released the below statement following a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Senators Rick Scott and Ron Johnson said, “Today, President Zelenskyy outlined what the Ukrainian people need to defend themselves against Russia’s blatant war crimes, and the United States must do everything in its power to deliver. We must join together with our NATO allies to commit all resources and equipment, excluding US troops, that the Ukrainian people need. This includes planes from allies who are able and willing to help. The Ukrainian people are on the frontline in Putin's war to control Europe and isolate the United States. That means issuing effective sanctions that will change the calculus of Putin and cause Russia and Belarus to end their invasion. Belarus is Russia's evil accomplice in this unjust war and must be treated as such. Absolutely no freedom-loving business, retailer or consumer should sell or purchase products made in Russia or Belarus, which only funnels money to Putin to fund his war. ALL major credit card companies – Visa, MasterCard, American Express – should IMMEDIATELY shut off service in Russia and Belarus and deprive Putin and his thugs of any and all financial resources. This is not extreme, it is what is needed to further cut off these tyrants. The other regimes that have the same goals as Putin – especially Communist China – need to see how we will react to their plan to dominate the globe. Any business that chooses to do business with Russia or Belarus right now is siding with evil. Freedom is under attack in Europe right now; no amount of profit is worth supporting this war. The United States and the American people have the opportunity to be leaders and set a global precedent to stand against evil. We cannot squander it.”
