Sen. Rick Scott: PPI Up 16.9% Since Biden Took Office
May 11, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which showed inflation continued to rise in April increasing 2.3% over the year. Since Joe Biden became president, PPI has risen 16.9% over the past two years.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Inflation has been hammering Americans for over two years and Florida families and businesses are sick and tired of struggling to keep up. An analysis from the Joint Economic Committee shows that since Biden took office, families in Florida are paying nearly $1,000 more every month just to maintain their lives. I’m fighting Biden’s reckless spending in the Senate because folks should be able to put money away for retirement, save for the kids to go to college, or for emergencies like a car repair, but they can’t because of Biden’s inflation crisis. I’m fighting to put America back on the path of fiscal sanity so families don’t have to keep tightening their belts and go without and employers don’t have to face the impossible choice of hiking prices, laying off employees—or both. Washington cannot continue down this path of absolute fiscal insanity that is causing American families and businesses to suffer. It is time to get a handle on the country’s finances, reach a responsible agreement on the debt ceiling with needed spending reforms and get our fiscal house back in order.”
According to today’s PPI release, price increases over the year in April included:
- Vegetables: +50.9%
- Rice: +20.7%
- Soap and Detergent: +15.6%
- Pet Food: +14.2%
- Construction: +11.2%
- Tires: +10.1%
Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation. Click HERE for a comprehensive list of his statements and actions on this urgent issue.
