Sen. Rick Scott on PPI: Biden’s Inflation Crisis is Forcing Floridians into Poverty

June 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which showed inflation continued to rise. Since Joe Biden became president, PPI has risen 16.6%.

Senator Rick Scott said, “No matter who you are or where you're from, Biden’s inflation crisis is making the cost of living more difficult for EVERYONE. Enough is enough. I'm fighting every day to get wasteful spending under control and fix the broken economy Biden and the Democrats created. Poor families, like mine growing up, are going through hell. The basics, like rent, food and electricity prices are all up, and it has lasting and devastating impacts on hardworking families’ budgets. It’s trapping folks into poverty. No family should have to make the tough choice between food on the table, saving for their future, or planning for a rainy day. And until Biden’s crisis is under control, I won’t ever stop being their voice in Washington.”

According to today’s PPI release, price increases over the year in May included:

  • Vegetables: +22.7%
  • Rice: +17.0%
  • Pet Food: +14.3%
  • Soap: +13.0%
  • Beef and Veal: +11.3%

Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation. Click HERE for a comprehensive list of his statements and actions on this urgent issue.
