Sen. Rick Scott Joins Sen. John Hoeven to Introduce CRA Resolution to Block Natural Gas Tax, Reduce Energy Costs & Boost U.S. Energy Production

December 17, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott joined Senator John Hoeven and Congressman August Pfluger to introduce a bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to block implementation of the Biden administration’s Natural Gas Tax, which was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act—Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend legislation in 2022. This bill is also cosponsored by Senators Shelley Moore Capito, Mike Lee, James Lankford, Katie Britt, Steve Daines, Roger Marshall, Kevin Cramer, Cynthia Lummis and James Risch in the U.S. Senate and Congressman Jodey Arrington in the House of Representatives. The full text of the legislation can be found here.

Senator Rick Scott said, “It’s time Washington focused on what the American people want: unleashing American energy, growing our economy and ending the woke agenda. As President Trump prepares to take office, we must do everything possible to undo Biden’s disastrous policies that have hurt American businesses and families. I’m proud to join my colleagues in leading this commonsense CRA to block the natural gas tax.”

Senator John Hoeven said, “American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy. The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply. That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration. Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.”

Congressman August Pfluger said, “President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad. If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. I am proud to lead this CRA to rescind implementation of the natural gas tax.”
