Sen. Rick Scott Resends Impeachment Articles to Sec. Mayorkas Following Testimony He Did Not Read Them
April 19, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott sent the articles of impeachment passed by the U.S. House of Representatives to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after he admitted under oath during testimony before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs that he did not read them. In a letter to Secretary Mayorkas accompanying the articles, Senator Scott implores Secretary Mayorkas to review the articles of impeachment in the hopes he will finally comprehend the depth of his failures to secure our homeland and the devastation these failures have brought upon the American people.

Dear Secretary Mayorkas:
Yesterday, just one day after Democrats took the unprecedented action of blocking the Senate from proceeding with our constitutional duty to hold your impeachment trial, you made a shocking admission. Under oath, you testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs that you have not taken the time to complete even the most basic responsibility to read the impeachment charges made against you by the U.S. House of Representatives.
Your refusal to show accountability for your failures, which have created the massive border crisis facing our nation, enabling unbelievable amounts of deadly fentanyl, criminals, terrorists and more than 6 million illegal aliens to gain entry to the United States, is shocking. While I expected to be disappointed by your inability to take ownership for the border crisis, your admission that you have failed to even read the criminal charges against you shows a level of disregard for your failures that surprises even your most vocal critics.
The people of Florida, and millions of our fellow Americans, know that you are guilty of the crimes for which you were impeached. We have witnessed the consequences of your failures firsthand as drugs pour into our communities and kill our friends, family and neighbors, and dangerous criminals victimize innocent Americans like Laken Riley. The political theater put on by you and congressional Democrats is an insult to our democratic process and the constitutional duties we all take an oath to uphold.
I have attached the impeachment charges brought against you to this letter and implore you to review them in the hope that doing so may help you finally comprehend the depth of your failures to secure our homeland and the devastation these failures have brought upon the American people.
Sincerely,
