Sen. Rick Scott & Colleagues Demand Passage of SAVE Act
September 11, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Rick Scott hosted a press conference with fellow Republican senators demanding the immediate passage of his and Senator Mike Lee’s SAVE Act to protect the integrity of U.S. elections and ensure only U.S. citizens can vote. Joining Senator Scott were Senators Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, Roger Marshall and Tommy Tuberville.
Senator Rick Scott said, “Democrats claim that we don’t need to take additional action because noncitizens voting in federal elections is already illegal. Let me ask this…if that logic holds up, why do we ask for ID when people buy alcohol when it’s already illegal to do so under age 21? Why do police set up DUI checkpoints or watch for speeders if drunk driving and speeding are already illegal? Here’s an even better question: why do we have border patrol if crossing the border without documentation is already illegal? We do those things because having laws without having enforcement doesn’t work. All of us here agree: We need to pass the SAVE Act now because we cannot let Democrats destroy our elections with illegal voting and fraud.
“In August alone, we saw three states – Alabama, Virginia and Texas – announce the removal of more than 16,000 non-citizens from their voter rolls, and Texas said that up to 2,000 of those individuals may have voted in prior elections. And just this week, the DOJ said that an illegal immigrant stole someone’s identity and voted in MULTIPLE elections in Alabama. Why is Schumer so afraid of the SAVE Act? The answer seems simple to me. Harris, Schumer and the Democrats intentionally opened up the border and allowed more than 10 million people to come here illegally so they can vote in our elections and help Democrats win. We cannot tolerate a single non-citizen voting in U.S. elections. We need to get the SAVE Act passed today.”

In case you missed it, Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for the Washington Examiner outlining his support for the SAVE Act. In his op-ed, Senator Scott urges his colleagues in the House and Senate to stand with Speaker Mike Johnson and support the passage of the bill, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.
