Sen. Rick Scott Issues Statement Ahead of Expected Arrests of Hollywood Hills Nursing Home Employees
August 26, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Scott released the following statement after arrest warrants were issued against four employees of the Hollywood Hills nursing home for their failure to protect patients during Hurricane Irma.
Senator Rick Scott said, “I’m glad these individuals are being held accountable after their inexplicable failure to call 911 when people were in need. Every child knows that when there is imminent danger, 911 is the number to call. Yet, trained health staff at this facility didn’t even do that. The individuals responsible for these senseless deaths must be brought to justice.
“Nothing can hide the fact that this healthcare facility failed to do their basic duty to protect life. We took steps in Florida to protect our most vulnerable, including requiring all nursing homes and assisted living facilities to have emergency backup power, to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again.”
